| Girard
joined the firm as an associate in 2005 and became
a member of the firm in 2009. In his civil practice,
Girard concentrates on Civil Litigation, including
landlord/tenant matters, personal injury, property
rights and boundary disputes, collections, and
contract disputes. He also practices in the areas
of wills and trusts, and real estate transactions.
He also has significant experience in Probate
Court litigation.
In 2008, Girard was sworn in as
the Assistant City Solicitor for Prosecutions
for the City of Newport. In this role, Girard
prosecutes all misdemeanor criminal matters and
ordinance violations for the City. Girard has
used this experience to benefit those in need
of a defense to criminal charges from neighboring
communities.
Girard is admitted to practice in
the Rhode Island State Courts and is also licensed
to practice in Rhode Island Federal District Court.
Girard grew up on Aquidneck Island. He is a magna
cum laude graduate of James Madison University
in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and also attended the
University of London in London, England. Prior
to law school, Girard was employed by the House
Armed Services Committee in the United States
House of Representatives. He received his law
degree from George Mason University School of
Law, in Arlington, Virginia in May 2005. In his
final semester of law school, Girard clerked for
the United States Senate Judiciary Committee,
which has jurisdiction over a wide spectrum of
matters affecting the legal system. He is a member
of the Board of Directors of the Newport County
YMCA, and is chairman of the YMCA’s properties
committee.
